The Road PDF Summary
Some years after an extinction event, a father and his young son trek across the post-apocalyptic ash-covered United States on foot.
The boy’s mother, who was pregnant at the time of the catastrophe, had already committed herself.
Recognizing that they will not be able to survive the winter in northern latitudes, the father drives the son south over interstate roads towards the sea, carrying their scant belongings in knapsacks and a supermarket cart.
The father is sick with a cough. He informs his youngster that they are “good guys” carrying the fire. They have a revolver, but it only has two rounds.
To prevent falling into the hands of cannibals, the father has tried to instruct the son to use the gun on himself if necessary.
They try to avoid a bunch of marauders traveling down the road, but one of the marauders spots them and kidnaps the boy.
They flee the marauder’s comrades, abandoning most of their belongings after the father shoots him dead.
Later, when looking for supplies at a house, they come across a locked dungeon containing hostages whom cannibals have been eating limb by limb, and run into the woods.
